How to Make Homemade Deodorant

I've wanted to make my own spray deodorant for some time now and I finally found a recipe I like and could easily tweak. It only contains a few ingredients so it doesn't take long to make either. Bonus!

This deodorant does effectively help control odor, has a nice scent and is relatively inexpensive to make.

Making Your Spray Deodorant

Just a few things to keep in mind when making your homemade products:

  1. Be sure to work on a clean surface and whatever utensils you use are clean.
  2. Wash your hands before touching the container you’re using.
  3. Keep the batch size small so the homemade products you use are fresh unless you're making this for gifts.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. This can all be made in a glass measuring cup. Add the water and heat in microwave just enough to warm it so the salt can dissolve.
  2. Add in the pink himalayan salt and stir until dissolved.
  3. When cooled add in the witch hazel, 7 drops lime essential oil and 9 drops bergamot essential oil
  4. Pour into spray bottle.

When ready to use, give it a shake and spray under arms.

You can also use any of your favorite essential oils, although I think lime and bergamot go really good together. You can also use a high quality sea salt in place of the pink himalayan salt. For this recipe they pretty much do the same thing.

A Little Information on the Products Used

Witch Hazel - Soothing, astringent, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial.

Pink Himalayan Salt - Many salts in general are antibacterial. For the use in deodorant it can help neutralize odor.

Lime Essential Oil - I used it in this recipe because of its refreshing scent but it has antiseptic properties, antioxidant, antibacterial.

Bergamot Essential Oil - I used this because of its unusual citrusy scent but it can help prevent the growth of bacteria, healing to skin, soothing, antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

Water - It's just really good for you.

Have fun making your deodorant.

Homemade Recipe Tips

  • Make sure your work space and hands are clean.
  • Make sure the containers you are using are clean.
  • Make sure salves and creams have cooled enough before pouring in glass containers so they don't break.
  • Keep the batch size small so the homemade products you use are fresh unless you're making gifts.

Infusing Herbal Oils

  • Before you decide on which plant material you are going to use, I recommend you do your research on the plants or herbs you want to use.
  • The infused oils I make are for topical use, I recommend you do a little test on your skin prior to using your infusion, just to make sure you don’t have a reaction, chances are pretty low that it would bother you, but you just never know especially if you have sensitive skin.
  • All my infused oils have turned out great for the salves I’ve made or using them as they are or mixing with other oils and essential oils.
