Aloe Vera Recipe for Face and Body Spritzer
I use a product line that contains aloe vera and I love it, maybe you've heard of it? It's called Aloette. I’ve been using it for years and will continue to use it until the product is no more (which is never I hope).
One of the products from that line I especially like, like, like is the hydrating mist body spray. I love spraying it on my face before moisturizing and throughout the day if I feel my face needs a little pick me up. The cost is reasonable but I thought, if I can make something comparable, I can save a little.
Below is the aloe vera facial spray and body spray recipe I use every day based on the ingredients that are in the Hydrating Mist. This is my version of the spray which I personally think it's great for aging skin. I not only make it for myself, but family and friends too – and it makes a great gift. As with anything new you try, you can test this on a small patch of skin first.
Making Your Homemade Aloe Vera Spritzer
Just a few things to keep in mind when making your homemade products:
- Be sure to work on a clean surface and whatever utensils you use are clean.
- Wash your hands before touching the container you’re using.
- Use a dark container, at least I always do.
- Keep the batch size small so the homemade products you use are fresh.
Ingredients:
My recipe is below. I typically have enough for myself and to replenish those I’ve given the spray too.
- 1 cup aloe vera juice
- 3/4 cup water (I use filtered water from my fridge. If you’re water is a little iffy tasting, even through a filter system, you can use a good bottled water.)
- 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
- 1/2 teaspoon polysorbate 20
Instructions:
Stir these four ingredients until the vegetable glycerin and the polysorbate 20 are mixed and then add the following:
- 1/2 teaspoon sea kelp extract
- 1/2 teaspoon algae extract
- 1/2 teaspoon hyaluronic acid
- 8 drops grapefruit essential oil or rose essential oil
Stir all ingredients and pour into your spray bottles. Prior to use, give it a little shake like you would a toner. Wait a few minutes for it to dry then add your regular moisturizers.
If you like, you can add a small amount of additional ingredients such as a preservative or a glycolic acid powder? Do your research on what would be the best preservative or how much of an additional ingredient you should add.
Mine usually lasts me about a month for one spray bottle. There are no preservatives used in this recipe so keep it refrigerated. This is actually quite nice as it gives your face a little extra wake-me-up feeling.
Sometimes on the weekends I like to lounge around and I’ll spray this a little on my face to make me look fresh until I do get in the shower and ready for the day.
You can also use a small purse sized spray bottle to bring a little with you to use throughout the day. I haven’t had any issues by doing this.
Using Your Aloe Vera Spray
After showering, pat your face dry and spritze. You can spritz your arms, chest, and neck area too. Close your eyes while spraying. I love the way it makes my face look fresh and glowing.
In all the time that I and others have been using this we have not had any issues with it.
Below is a little information on the products I use.
Aloe Vera Juice
I use Lily of the Desert organic, whole leaf juice. I would suggest you also use a well known brand name that is organic.
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable glycerin helps with retaining moisture; it is a natural emollient and adds a cooling effect to the skin. Be careful and don’t overdo it when adding this to your spray, if you add too much it will leave you with a little sticky feeling.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies and as we get older, we lose it. Hyaluronic acid is also a great humectant. Hyaluronic acid is another ingredient that helps plump the skin and keep it hydrated and helps you stay young looking.
Polysorbate 20
Polysorbate 20 is a widely used emulsifier and stabilizer. It aids in dissolving ingredients that wouldn't normally dissolve into each other. In my case, it helps mix the water and essential oils together.
Sea Kelp Extract
Sea Kelp penetrates the skin and instantly hydrates it. It helps to retain moisture and softens the skin. Sea Kelp is rich in iodine, minerals, anti-oxidants and has natural anti-inflammatory properties.
I really think this is one of the ingredients that helps plump my skin and make it look fresh – and who can argue with that, right?
Algae Extract
Algae extract helps restore the glow and youthfulness of skin, it hydrates the skin and is said to help with wrinkles. Algae extract nourishes your skin with minerals and vitamins and helps stay soft and supple.
Well, there you have it. I hope you like it as much I do and others I've heard from. Ciao.
Homemade Recipe Tips
- Make sure your work space and hands are clean.
- Make sure the containers you are using are clean.
- Make sure salves and creams have cooled enough before pouring in glass containers so they don't break.
- Keep the batch size small so the homemade products you use are fresh unless you're making gifts.
Infusing Herbal Oils
- Before you decide on which plant material you are going to use, I recommend you do your research on the plants or herbs you want to use.
- The infused oils I make are for topical use, I recommend you do a little test on your skin prior to using your infusion, just to make sure you don’t have a reaction, chances are pretty low that it would bother you, but you just never know especially if you have sensitive skin.
- All my infused oils have turned out great for the salves I’ve made or using them as they are or mixing with other oils and essential oils.
