Rose Water Spritzer (Toner)
I have a lot of fun making my own products; it makes me feel good that I’m not using a bunch of chemicals on my skin. This is another of my favorite facial sprays.
Just the smell of rose water makes me feel feminine. I use rose water in the bath –my skin feel soft so soft and fresh and the scent relaxes me.
I also spritz plain rose water on my face and body and you can too. But I wanted to add a little more to it, so I’ve added a few ingredients to my rose water. The extra ingredients help hydrate and moisturize the skin, the recipe is below.
Because this isn’t a large batch, I use my glass measuring cup to mix the ingredients.
Ingredients for Rose Water Spray
- 3 tablespoons rose water
- 8 drops vegetable glycerin
- 1/2 teaspoons evening primrose oil
- 10 drops polysorbate-20
- 10 drops hyaluronic acid
- 4 drops rosehip seed oil (optional)
Mix all the ingredients together, and then pour in a small spray bottle.
Directions for Use
Close your eyes before spritzing.
I spray this on my face, after washing, morning and night prior to applying moisturizer. I also use this off and on throughout the day when I feel my skin needs a little pick-me-up.
This can be kept in or out of the refrigerator. In the hot summer months I keep it in the fridge to mist and freshen my face. It feels so good on hot summer days!
Below is a little about the ingredients used:
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable glycerin helps retain moisture; it's a natural emollient and it adds a cooling effect to the skin. Don’t overdo it when adding this ingredient, if do, it leaves a slight sticky feeling until completely absorbed.
Evening Primrose Oil
Evening Primrose Oil is high in the essential fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid which is essential for the body and your skin. Among it's many benefits and uses, evening primrose oil can help rejuvenate and hydrate the skin helping to keep it fresh, radiant and healthy looking.
Rosehip Seed Oil
Rosehip Seed Oil is a nice oil to use because it doesn't leave your skin greasy, it absorbs quickly into the skin. This is also another oil that is high in essential fatty acids. Rosehip seed oil helps to hydrate the skin and soften wrinkles. This is an oil that I will sometimes use alone on my skin if I've been out working in the dry heat because it does penetrate the skin quickly and leaves no greasy feeling.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that we lose as we get older. Hyaluronic acid is a great humectant it helps plump the skin and keep it hydrated-so you stay young looking.
Polysorbate 20
Polysorbate 20 is a widely used emulsifier and stabilizer. It aids in dissolving ingredients that wouldn't normally dissolve into each other. In my case, it helps mix the water and essential oils together.
Homemade Recipe Tips
- Make sure your work space and hands are clean.
- Make sure the containers you are using are clean.
- Make sure salves and creams have cooled enough before pouring in glass containers so they don't break.
- Keep the batch size small so the homemade products you use are fresh unless you're making gifts.
Infusing Herbal Oils
- Before you decide on which plant material you are going to use, I recommend you do your research on the plants or herbs you want to use.
- The infused oils I make are for topical use, I recommend you do a little test on your skin prior to using your infusion, just to make sure you don’t have a reaction, chances are pretty low that it would bother you, but you just never know especially if you have sensitive skin.
- All my infused oils have turned out great for the salves I’ve made or using them as they are or mixing with other oils and essential oils.
