Natural and Safe Home Scents

Hey! So I went on a nature walk with my family this morning, there were a lot of pine branches down on the ground, from the big wind storm about a week ago. I was thinking the entire time we were walking how I love the pine smell and how it made me think of Christmas..... if you know me, you know I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!

So I grabbed a few sprigs of the pine and brought it home. I thought I could boil some items in a pot on the stove and make my house smell wonderful. So I did, and it did! It was amazing, made the entire house smell like fall and it made me feel so content and happy and relaxed..... the scent traveled throughout the entire house.

Healthier and Chemical Free Alternative

So, would you like this simple recipe that is so easy and inexpensive.... that won't give you a headache? No harsh chemicals..... Here you go!

Crisp Fall Day

Ingredients:

  • 3 sprigs of pine
  • 3 thin slices of an orange
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

In a pot add 3 cups of water. Add all the above ingredients and stir until spices and vanilla are mixed around. Bring to a boil on high heat. Boil for about 5 minutes. Reduce to medium high heat, it shoud be ok to leave there at a slow boil while the scent fills your house.

Keep an eye on it and check it every so often, you don't want to boil up all the water. I think I left mine on the stove for about an hour.... that is my guesstimate!

I hope you try and enjoy this fall recipe of mine. You could really create any scent you want, for any season! If you do, please share your results.

Thank you and enjoy! Happy Fall!!

Performing a Patch Test and a Few Safety Tips.

If you are new or not sure how a blend or essential oil may react on your skin, it is always recommended to do a patch test prior to use. To do this, mix 2 drops essential oil to about 1/2 teaspoon carrier oil then apply to a patch of skin such as the forearm. Observe that area over the next 1 to 2 hours for any noticeable reaction; this will usually occur within 5-10 minutes. If you experience any irritation or discomfort either stop using or adjust the amount of essential oils you've used.

If you have not used a carrier oil before, you can also perform a patch test to the inner arm area.

Prior to using essential oils, always check the label for appropriate usage and do not apply essential oil to sensitive areas like the eyes, ears, and mucous membranes. If you have a medical condition and/or you are taking medications, consult your physician prior to use.
